How Long Till It’s Gone - Plastic PSA

Illustration, Environmental Design, Copywriting

“How Long Till It’s Gone” is an illustrated environmental awareness campaign centered around ocean pollution and plastic waste. The visual reimagines a coral reef ecosystem made entirely of discarded plastic items, blending beauty and discomfort. The piece was displayed as a wall mural and digital screen installation to encourage public reflection on long-term environmental impact.

  • This campaign uses visual storytelling to make invisible timelines feel tangible — specifically, how long everyday plastics take to break down in the ocean. The illustration replaces coral with objects like nerf bullets, toothbrushes, a fishing net, and a rubber glove that doubles as a crab, creating a surreal yet familiar underwater scene. Each item is paired with a breakdown time statistic, underscoring the permanence of these pollutants. By placing the work in a public stairwell mural and as a screen display on a building, the project invites viewers to confront environmental harm in passing moments. This campaign highlights how illustration can be used not just for beauty, but as a catalyst for awareness and change.
